Your library probably keeps a list of everything you borrowed, and your searches as well.  So while it is convenient to have these lists to be reminded when you forget the name of the book you read last summer, the nice system will record your typos just as faithfully: the securities exchange commission search that slipped to an adjacent key, SE… can establish your profile as a dirty old person.  At least you have some control over your library “reading history”.  Ask your librarian.

Other aspects of records pointing to your identity are harder to manage,like your credit score. But that topic is for another day.
